A Fitness to Practise Committee of the Education Workforce Council (EWC), sitting remotely on 17 and 18 November 2025, has found allegations of ‘unacceptable professional conduct’ proved against school teacher, Richard Alaw Williams.
The Committee found that Mr Williams:
- between May 2023 and February 2024, did not consistently meet expectations, and/or make satisfactory and/or acceptable improvement in relation to one or more aspects of their work as a school teacher and as a numeracy lead, namely:
- planning lessons in Language and/or Mathematics
- ensuring appropriate differentiation in lessons
- effective use of Assessment for Learning principles and/or Success Criteria and/or Learning Objectives
- ensuring pupil engagement in lessons
- ensuring pupils completed tasks in lessons
- ensuring pupils made sufficient progress and/or gained basic skills
- marking pupils’ work and/or providing feedback
- between May 2023 and February 2024, did not consistently meet expectations, and/or make satisfactory and/or acceptable improvement in relation to one or more aspects of their work as Numeracy Lead, namely:
- planning for numeracy provision and/or curriculum content across the school
- monitoring of progress and improvement within numeracy at the school
- clearly identifying and/or communicating targets and/or action points arising from his monitoring of numeracy at the school
- preparing and/or submitting reports in relation to the numeracy provision at the school
The Fitness to Practise Committee imposed a Suspension Order (without conditions) on Mr Williams’ registration as a school teacher for a period of 6 months (from 18 November 2025 to 18 May 2026). As such, Mr Williams will not be able to work as a school teacher in a maintained school or non-maintained special school in Wales for the period of the Order.
Mr Williams has a right of appeal to High Court within 28 days.
