If you're interested in evidence-informed practice, your PLP provides you with access to EBSCO. It's the world’s largest full-text research database for education professionals covering all levels of education and specialities.

There are also a number of open source repositories and databases that offer access to journal articles, books and theses. We’ve listed a number of useful sites to help you.

Aberystwyth Research Portal - the institutional repository of Aberystwyth University.

Cronfa - the institutional repository of Swansea University.

Digital Education Resource Archive (DERA) - a repository of documents published electronically by government and other organisations in the field of education, training, children and families.

Directory of Open Access Books - increases the discoverability of Open Access books.

Directory of Open Access Journals - an online directory that indexes and provides access to quality open access, peer-reviewed journals.

ERIC Institute of Education Services - an online library of education research and information, sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education.

MESH - aims to connect educators with summaries and sources of educational research.

Monash University Research Repository - the repository, specifically the Faculty of Education papers collection. An open access digital archive of downloadable research publications.

OAPEN Library - freely accessible academic books, mainly in the area of humanities and social science.

Open Book Publishers - high-quality, open access academic research in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

OpenDOAR - a directory of academic open access repositories

ORCA - a digital repository of Cardiff University's research outputs. The full text of publications is made freely available where possible.

ORO – the Open University repository, which contains over 30,000 research outputs.

Springer Open - a place to publish open access in journals and books for researchers from all areas of science, technology, medicine, the humanities and social sciences.

Wales Journal of Education - open access, bilingual journal publishing local and international research on education policy and practice in Wales, under academic and practitioner strands.

Wiley Open - a programme of fully open access journals.

Youthworkwales - the leading information resource for youth work in wales. The aim of the site is to provide practitioners, students and managers of youth work in Wales with a range of historical and current information which will help develop thinking and practice.

There is no prescribed format for writing an action research report. It depends on your intended audience and your educational context. However, there are some key elements which are common to most action research report structures.

How to…set up a journal club

Journal clubs are meetings which are held on a regular basis where individuals with similar interests get together to discuss recent articles and academic literature. They aim to bridge the gap between research and practice and promote discussion about how to evaluate and apply research.
