New animation launched to support witnesses attending fitness to practise hearings

We have launched a new animation to help witnesses understand what to expect when attending a fitness to practise hearing.

The short video has been developed as part of our ongoing commitment to making our fitness to practise processes as clear, accessible, and supportive as possible for everyone involved.

Witness evidence plays an important role in helping fitness to practise committees reach informed decisions. This new animation provides a step-by-step overview of the hearing process, helping witnesses feel more prepared and confident before attending a hearing.

It includes information about what happens before a hearing, including the support available from the solicitor responsible for the case, and the guidance witnesses will receive in advance. The animation also takes viewers through what they can expect on the day of a hearing.

Commenting on the launch, David Browne, Director of Regulation at EWC said “We recognise that attending a fitness to practise hearing as a witness can feel daunting, particularly for those who have never been involved in a hearing before. We created this animation to give clear and practical information, helping witnesses understand the process and feel supported throughout their involvement."

Fitness to practise hearings are an important part of the EWC's regulatory role, helping to maintain public trust and confidence in the education workforce in Wales while ensuring fair and transparent procedures are followed.

The animation is available on our YouTube channel.
