Safeguarding the profession and the public

Have you checked your staff are registered?

Education practitioners can’t work in Wales without being registered with us, in the correct category for the work they do. As an employer/agency, you have a legal responsibility to make sure your staff are registered before they begin working. That includes any visiting workers such as supply staff, peripatetic teachers, and hourly paid staff (such as music tutors and sports coaches).

You can use your online access to the Register to check the registration status of your staff now.

Maintaining confidentiality

We have published a new good practice guide on the topic of maintaining confidentiality. It includes information to help registrants ensure confidential information and data is managed securely, lawfully, and fairly.

You can read the full suite on our good practice guides page. Make sure to share it with registrants working in your location.

Blog: Reflecting on our journey, impact, and future

At the  end of our tenth year as the EWC, we took the opportunity to reflect on how we’ve evolved, the impact we’ve made, and how we will continue to serve learners and young people, the public, and the education workforce in the years ahead.

Council updates

Our vision for the future

On 1 April, we published our Strategic Plan 2026-29 and refreshed Strategic Equality Plan 2024-28. They set out our key priorities and commitments for the years ahead.

Guidance, resources, and professional services

Use the PLP for performance management

We have been working with educational organisations to create bespoke templates in the Professional Learning Passport (PLP) that can be used as a tool in the performance management process. If you’re interested, read more information about using the PLP and how you could get it set up for your organisation in time for September.
