This event will explore key topics relating to the Welsh language within the education workforce. We will discuss skill levels, supply and demand, and the challenges associated with recruiting, retaining, and developing practitioners able to speak Welsh or teach through the medium of Welsh.
Drawing on unique insights from our Register, workforce statistics, and wider workforce intelligence, we will examine the Welsh language capacity of the education workforce and consider whether current workforce trends are sufficient to support Wales' ambitious Welsh language goals, including Cymraeg 2050.
We will also consider the wider policy context, examining the critical role the workforce plays in supporting the growth of Welsh-medium and bilingual education.
The event will include contributions from Welsh Government, the office of the Welsh Language Commissioner, as well as a panel discussion featuring individuals with expertise in education and the Welsh language from various sectors. Drawing on their experience, the panel will offer insights into the challenges and opportunities facing their areas, and the practical steps needed to strengthen Welsh language capacity across the education workforce.
