This privacy notice sets out how we collect, use, and protect your personal information in relation to our statutory responsibilities under the Education Workforce Council (Accreditation of Initial Teacher Training) (Additional Functions) Order 2017.

We have a statutory responsibility to:

  • Accredit programmes of Initial Teacher Education (ITE)
  • Monitor compliance of accredited programmes against Welsh Government criteria
  • Withdraw accreditation of programmes where necessary

What Personal Data We Collect and Why

1. Data Related to Board Members

We collect personal data to support the work of the Initial Teacher Education Accreditation Board (ITEAB). This includes:

  • Full name
  • Contact details (home address, personal e-mail, contact telephone number)
  • CV and employment status (for remuneration and financial processing)
  • Register of interests
  • Dietary and accessibility requirements (for meeting logistics)

Purpose of Processing

This data is used to:

  • Support appointment, induction, and participation of board members
  • Facilitate the administration and logistics of board meetings (e.g. booking travel, accommodation, catering)
  • Ensure compliance with governance and transparency standards
  • Process honoraria or expense reimbursements where applicable

2. Data Related to ITE Partnerships

In carrying out our accreditation and monitoring responsibilities, we receive information from ITE providers and partnership institutions. This may include:

  • Programme and accreditation documentation
  • Financial models (which may be commercially sensitive)
  • Contact details for partnership staff
  • CVs of tutors or staff associated with the programme

Purpose of Processing

This data is used to:

  • Assess ITE programme proposals against accreditation criteria
  • Monitor ongoing compliance and programme quality
  • Maintain records of institutional contacts
  • Support the decision-making process of the ITEAB

Where We Obtain Your Information

We collect data through a range of channels, including:

  • Application forms (Board membership, ITE programme applications)
  • Accreditation documentation and submissions
  • Direct correspondence with partnerships or individuals

Lawful Basis for Processing

We process personal data in accordance with:

  • Article 6(1)(e) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) – Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority
  • Article 6(1)(c) – Processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation

Our functions are defined under:

  • The Education (Wales) Act 2014
  • The Accreditation of Initial Teacher Training (Additional Functions) Order 2017
  • Related Welsh Government criteria and guidance

Where commercially sensitive information is provided (e.g. financial models), it will be treated in confidence and only used for the purpose of accreditation activity and compliance monitoring.

Data Sharing

Personal data may be shared where necessary with:

  • Internal staff supporting the ITEAB process
  • Venues and service providers (e.g. hotels, catering) for events, with limited data (e.g. names, dietary/accessibility requirements)
  • Welsh Government or other relevant bodies in line with our statutory functions
